… From the Yuma Sun:

Agriculture, tourism and military move over.

There is a new player on the economic impact scene for Yuma County.

According to figures released by the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce this week, Cocopah Speedway pumps an estimated $10 million into the local economy.

“That is a big number in this town,” said John Courtis, executive director of the chamber.

“I wanted to know how big a deal Cocopah Speedway really is in terms of economic impact, and I started really digging … I wanted to be as accurate as I possibly can be, and here are the numbers. I reached $10.1 million. And I am proud to put the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce logo on those numbers.”

Cocopah Speedway is a dirt track racing facility owned and operated by the Cocopah Indian Tribe, located south of Yuma, inside the Somerton city limits, at County 15th Street and Highway 95.
